Studio Lighting--7

This one is unique because of it's sort of
sillouette vibe.

Another sort of dark, sillouette..but
more of a dramatic lighting picture.

I like this photo because of it's sort of subtle vibe and the dramatic lighting is great.

studio_lighting01.jpg

Great dramatic lighting, you can see the light is being shined directly on her which makes for great effect.

Another cool studio lighting, and also motion. I like this one because of the water at the top, someone has clearly just set it down and dramtic lighting gives it an even cooler effect.

Realistic/Ambigous Portraits--6

This is a great picutre for realistic/ambigous portraits because
the child has no clue the picture is being taken, and theres a slight
rule of thirds being used.

This is a cool ambigous portrait, that looks like it was taken from either a balcony
or a higher level surface. The women doesnt appear to have any idea the photo is being taken.

This is a great photo, because the kids have no idea whats going on. Kids are great to photograph because alot of the times theyre doing their own thing and its easy to catch them in the moment.

This sorta looks like it might be posed, however it was on a website for realistic and
ambigous photos. So, this could very be a picture caught in the moment.

This doesnt look posed at all because the
child is focusing on the blocks and doesnt know the picture is being taken.

                                                      These are my Realistic/Ambigous Portraits:

These arn't the best photos I've ever taken, but I do like the idea behind them. I think even if the picture itself isnt great, I like where it was coming from. The first one I like, because my Aunt and my brother have no idea iam taking the photograph, and they're being framed by a column and a china shelf.  I think I my use of postive and negative space was ok....there was good contrast for the most part. What makes this photo look real is that they have no clue that I am taking the picture.
My second photograph, I like this one because of all the layers; the table, silverwear, a glass, my grandmother, and her friend, and then my uncles in the backround. And, once again they have no clue this picture was being taken.  My use of positive and negative space was once again okay...not alot of contrast..sorta gray. But, what makes this photograph look real is the fact that there are two conversations going on and neither of the two realize that a picture is being taken.

David Hockney--5

In order to create a David Hockney style photo for the hallway, lighting is important because just like for every othere photo, you want contrast, and good lighting. Meaning, you read your light meter accordingly and adjust and overexpose and underexpose when nessasary. A good subject for this type of photo can be really anything, but in my opinion, buildings, landscanpes and scenories work best!

Carter's Mountain Field Trip--4

Overall, I thought my Carters Mountain roll was OK. Wasn't the best roll I've ever taken, however there were a few good photos I had to work with. My two prints that I turned in were portraits, they turned out alright. If they had been more focused and I had used the roll of thirds they might have been a little better. I'd say both of my photos rated a 4, because they weren't terrible, but blurryness takes alot away from a photograph.

Positive Polaroid Lift off--3

I think a simple subject works best for the positive polaroid lift offs. Because, if you have a really complex photo it might be hard to see it. Also, a photo with a lot of contrast works best, and thats not too dark and not too light.
Overall, I liked my positive polaroid lift off prints. I did a picture of my goat, and a graphitti wall-which worked pretty well because of the contrast between the writing and the white wall.

Sepia Toning--2

As you can tell by the above photos you can use just about any photo for sepia toning. I like lancapes, scenories, and people particularly for sepia toning. I like the way my first sepia toning print turned it. It was a picture of a graphiti wall with the words "WOW" with the 'O" made out of a drain pipe in that wall with leaves coming out. I liked the browns and I really liked the subject. The second photo I did, I took a picture of more graphiti, but I didnt like the way my second one turned out as much as my first.

Norman Parkinson Fashion Photographer--1

I really like Norman Parkinson's photos for a a couple reasons. I like the subjects, and how he's soley into photographing women and fashion design. His photos are unique and abstract, similar in ways...very different in others. Alot of times you can't even tell what's going on in the photo which I think is cool because it means that It probably meant something to the photographer. And, also..it's probably just a unique way he has the models pose. I really like the photographs he takes.

Hand Coloring--7

A good hand coloring photo can be just about any photo, it can be objects or scenary and both work just as well. It is your choice wether you color parts of the photo or just certain parts to add effect.
Howeverm, by hand coloring the entire photo like all the photos above, you get a creative, colorful more vibrant photo. Most of the time hand-coloring prints are colored entirely.
I was overall very please with my two hand-coloring prints, although they took some time coloring in each detail and each leaf..It was well worth it, cause the end result I look looked farily nice.

Cross Processing--6

Cross Processing is the process of developing one type of film in a solution intended for another type of film. For cross processing, you can really use anything for a subject. For me, I think people and lanscapes look the best, but thats soley because all the objects I took pictures of did not turn out as I had wished. Overall, I liked my photo's I thought the colors looked good and they turned out well. Except for the occasional few that didn't turn out so well, overall I was pleased.

Solarization--5

For making a "powerful" solarized photograph, you can take a picture of just about anything, but the important thing to keep in mind is contrast! Like I said, your subject can be anything you want, but simplicity is important because otherwise it's hard to solarize the photograph with out the picture being too distracting. (However, the photographs above are not all "simple," but they turned out well.

I thought my two solarization photographs turned out pretty good. I was happy with both of them, because both photographs were not only "good," but they solarized pretty well. The only thing I was sorta bummed about was, on my picture of my goats--i guess the chemicals ran in the dark room and theres a few streaks..however it works because it looks like the sun's rays. I was happy with the pictures over all.

Polariod Transfers--4

I think each of these photos are unique in their own ways, I like the "old timey" look especially. What makes a good polaroid transefer is a simple photo (like the stawberries above-very simple) Simplicity is key, you want a subject and a very calm subtle back round. You don't want a "busy" photo.

Evaluation of my Images:
Overall, I was very happy with my two Polaroid transfers, there was some good composition in both of the images. My light was great, there was some layering going on, some framing, and some rule of thirds. I used a zoom lense which helped with  focusing, because I was taking pictures of my goats. But, overall, I was very proud of my Polaroid Transfers!

Layering Questions --3

layering
In this photo there are multiple layers. There 3 different mountains
and they are are all layered. So, there is a lot of laying going on in this
photo. I think what makes this photo graph "work" is the actual layering
of the mountains. The actual layers on the mountain. It makes it
really unique cause it's not just different subjects as layers it's one
subject physically layered. In this photo, yes, many of the layers intersect.
But, I do not think it distracts, because In my opionion thats what makes
this picture so awesome.

There are many layers in this photograph as well. The bike, the cars, the trees, and
the buildings in the back. What makes this photography work is that theres not too
much going on. I think what helps is that the road is fairly "clear" of cars, minus the
cars parked on the sides. I'd say for the most part that the layers do not intersect so
it doesnt make it hard for the viewer to depict whats going on.

In this picture there are four layers. The little boy, the grass, the people, the trees,
and then the sky. This photo works because once again theres not too much going on. It's
very clear to everyone that there are two things going on in the picture. The photo being
taken by the little boy, and the people smiling for the photo. The layers in this photo do
not intersect whatsoever.

In this particular photo there are alot of layers. Almost too many to count.
I think this photo is so busy, thats what makes it "work." Its just a busy photo and yes
many of the layers do intersect;  the clothes, the signs..the darkness of the photo..

This assaignment makes you a better photographer for a couple reasons. One, it helps
you to judge someone elses layering photos and see what works and what doesnt and
also gives you some ideas on what you could have done or still can do when trying to
layer photographs.
Fiber paper is a better museum paper because of the text sure it has.
My layering roll was okay..a lot of my photos didn't turn out as i had anticipated. I took some good photos but little things made me not want to print them..Such as; blurryness. One of the photos however was a photo i took using layering and the rule of thirds, because the flower pot was in the corner, with the flowers, stones and gate in the picture as well. The pictures I took at my field hockey game I guess I just took too fast and they didnt turn out very well.

3200 film--2

I chose these two photos because they were the first to catch my eye when I searched "3200 film." These photos have great grain in them and are very helpful to someone like me when getting an idea of how I want my 3200 photo to look like. And as you can see in the first photo the layering going on and the great colors. I really like using the 3200 film because it's something different. Since, we normally use 400 film it's fun to do a different film and get a different outcome. And I really like how the grain in the 3200 film stands out. The lighting I used for my 3200 film was actually fairly dark. The grain came out well, but the photos were both pretty dark, Even with the use of dodging and burning! I was pretty happy with both of them, however  they could have been better for multiple reasons like lighting, dust, and creativity. The ISO i set my camera to was 3200, and the advantage to this film is the uniqueness and different appearence it brings to the photograph. While the disadvantage to some people may be that they may not like that sort of grainy tone.

PHOTO 2--1

I thought that my first roll of film was...Okay for a first roll. I did some things wrong, and they wern't that great of pictures, but it was also my first roll back from summer. So, I had fogotten some important aspects of shooting, and thats why i scored an 87 on my 2 prints. My two pictures were of a fruit bowl and a pumkin. I liked the subject of both but thats about it. I just didn't quite like just how the photo turned out in general. The photo(s) could have been better for a couple reasons: if they were focused, and if they didnt have so many distracting elements. I can improve on just about anything and everything as a photography student. I have learned alot and continue to learn alot by the mistakes i make on a regular basis. However, using filters, dodging and burning I do feel fairly comfortable doing. Once I get the hang  of it!
